Help & FAQ

Questions, brewed

Everything you might want to know before your first cup — how to brew each tea, what makes it organic, how shipping works, and an honest word on wellbeing. Still curious? We are a short message away.

Brewing & caffeine

Sift about half a teaspoon (1–2g) of Matcha — Brain Boost into a bowl, add a splash of water heated to around 80°C (just off the boil), and whisk briskly in a zig-zag or W motion for 15–20 seconds until smooth and frothy. Top up with more hot water or your milk of choice. Avoid boiling water, as it can make matcha taste bitter.

Pu-erh — Digestion is an aged Yunnan loose-leaf tea that loves boiling water. Use roughly a teaspoon per cup, pour over freshly boiled water and steep for 2–3 minutes. Because the leaves are whole and aged, they re-steep beautifully — you can refill the same leaves several times across the day, with each infusion a little mellower than the last.

Dandelion Root — Anti-Inflammatory is a roasted whole root, so it needs a good long steep. Use about a teaspoon per cup, pour over boiling water and let it brew for 5–8 minutes — the longer you leave it, the deeper and roastier it gets. It is caffeine-free, so it is lovely in the evening or as a coffee alternative.

Matcha — Brain Boost contains caffeine, paired naturally with L-theanine for a calm, steady kind of focus. Pu-erh — Digestion also contains caffeine, though it is generally gentler than coffee. Dandelion Root — Anti-Inflammatory is completely caffeine-free, which makes it a good choice later in the day.

Organic & ingredients

It means every tea is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers and is certified to recognised organic standards. We choose whole-leaf and whole-root teas for their quality and richness in beneficial properties, keep them single-origin and traceable, and seal them to stay fresh and vivid.

No. There is nothing added, ever — no fillers, no flavourings, no anti-caking agents. Each product is simply the whole organic leaf or root. All OTAN teas are vegan and come in recyclable, resealable tins.

Our teas are single-ingredient — pure matcha, pu-erh or dandelion root — and contain no added allergens. If you have a specific sensitivity or allergy, please read the product details and, if in doubt, check with your healthcare professional before drinking. If you ever react to a tea, stop drinking it.

Our matcha is ceremonial-grade and from Japan, our pu-erh is aged loose leaf from the Yunnan region, and our dandelion root is roasted whole root. Every tea is single-origin, certified organic and traceable, chosen for character rather than margin.

We describe our teas using their traditional and commonly-associated wellbeing uses — for example matcha for focus, pu-erh for digestion and dandelion root for everyday inflammation. These reflect long-standing customary use and are not medical claims. Our teas are foods and beverages, not medicines, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. For the full picture, please read our Wellness disclaimer.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or managing a health condition, please speak with a qualified healthcare professional before adding any new tea to your routine — especially the caffeinated matcha and pu-erh. This is general information only and not a substitute for personal medical advice.
