The honest bit

Wellness disclaimer

We love talking about how our teas can make you feel — but we want to be clear and honest about what that does, and doesn't, mean. Here is the plain-English version.

In short: OTAN teas are foods and beverages to be enjoyed, not medicines. Anything we say about wellbeing reflects traditional and commonly-associated use — it is not medical advice, and it is no substitute for speaking with a qualified healthcare professional.

Our teas are foods, not therapeutic goods

OTAN sells certified-organic teas and herbal infusions intended to be brewed and enjoyed as part of everyday life. They are foods and beverages. They are not registered therapeutic goods, supplements or medicines, and they are not sold to treat any specific condition.

About the wellbeing language we use

When we describe a tea as being for the “mind”, “body” or “spirit” — or use words like “brain boost”, “digestion” or “anti-inflammatory” — we are pointing to the way these teas and their key ingredients have traditionally been used and are commonly associated. Matcha has long been enjoyed for focus, pu-erh for settling digestion, and dandelion root for everyday inflammation. These reflect customary and cultural use; they have not been independently evaluated as medical claims, and individual experiences will vary.

In other words: our benefit statements are not a promise of a health outcome, and they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or health condition.

Information only — not medical advice

Everything on this website is provided for general information and enjoyment. It is not personalised health, medical, nutritional or dietary advice, and it should never replace advice from a doctor, pharmacist, naturopath or other qualified healthcare professional who knows your individual circumstances.

Please talk to a qualified healthcare professional before adding any new tea to your routine — and especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, living with a medical condition, or preparing for surgery. If you have questions about how a tea might interact with your situation, your health professional is the right person to ask.

A note on caffeine

Matcha — Brain Boost and Pu-erh — Digestion both naturally contain caffeine. If you are sensitive to caffeine, watching your intake, or drinking tea later in the day, please keep that in mind. Dandelion Root — Anti-Inflammatory is caffeine-free, which makes it a gentle choice in the evening.

Allergies and sensitivities

Our teas are single-ingredient and contain nothing added — but everyone is different, and any food or drink can occasionally cause a sensitivity or reaction. If you have a known allergy or sensitivity, please review the product details first and check with your healthcare professional if you are unsure. If you experience any adverse reaction after drinking one of our teas, stop drinking it straight away and seek medical advice if needed.

Use your judgement

Enjoy our teas as part of a balanced lifestyle and in sensible amounts. They are meant to be a small, pleasant ritual — not a remedy, and not a reason to delay seeing a professional about anything that concerns you.
